Safety First

We all know that without queue management systems, crowds can turn chaotic.  It’s a known fact that crowd-related injuries, especially during special retail sales and promotional stadium events, have increased in recent years. In 2008, due to unforeseen circumstances, a retail store employee was trampled to death at the opening of a Black Friday sale. Thanks to the Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA), and the proper crowd management plan, we can help prevent that kind of situation.

With an established crowd control plan that includes a single line queue, these unfortunate circumstances could have been avoided.

Here are some helpful hints on how to control your crowd:

·         Preparation

o   Ensure that employees are properly trained in crowd management procedures and develop an emergency plan. Provide them with an opportunity to practice before the special event.

·         Pre-Event Set up

o   Set up a single line queue using Tensabarrier posts, barricades or posts & rope for crowd control management.

·         During the Event

o   Provide entry and crowd management measures at all entrances. If possible, use more than one entrance.

·         Emergency Situations

o   Instruct employees, in the event of an emergency, to follow instructions from authorized first responders, regardless of company rules.
