Press Release

Bespoke designs by queue management specialist Tensator, approved by Tesco for use in any of the retailer’s UK outlets earlier this year, have proved a hit with supermarket chain.

Following successful pilot schemes earlier this year, Tensator’s solutions have now been fully installed and are up and running in stores across the country to maximise the potential of queuing areas, improve retail opportunities and guide customers within the store.

The solutions, which include In-Queue Merchandising and customised Tensabarrier® posts, have been chosen by Tesco to enhance their customers’ shopping experience by simplifying the queuing process. Tensabarriers at Tesco

Designed for use in the kiosk and self-service check-out areas, the unique systems create clear queuing areas and improve the customers’ flow through to payment.

Tensator also designed a number of post-top signs to advise customers of where to queue for specific items, such as lottery tickets and tobacco and a range of In-Queue Merchandising units to drive sales by encouraging impulse purchases whilst waiting.

Tensator worked with each individual store to understand its specific requirements and adapted its products to the appropriate queuing environment. Tensator was able to completely customise various products for Tesco to ensure they were both visually appealing as well as ensuring they conformed to Tesco brand guidelines.

Initially, Tensator was chosen by Tesco to supply queue management products to one of its stores following a two year tender process. After the first successful installation, Tensator’s systems were rolled out across a number of new and refurbished outlets spread throughout the country and have been a feature in the retailers’ customer journey management solutions ever since.

Gavin Ashpool, project manager at Tesco commented: “Ensuring that our customers enjoy the best possible shopping experience is a key focus for us. We wanted to improve the queuing system in our UK stores to increase efficiency, speed up the queuing process and enhance the customer journey.

“Tensator worked with us at every stage of the design process to understand our requirements and create a customised system that reflects the strong Tesco brand. The move to use Tensator’s products in more of our stores is testament to how happy we are with the systems.”

Kevin Hickson, general manager, Tensator commented: “Tesco is an inspiring, global brand to work with, and we hope to continue to support them in improving their customers’ shopping experiences. Following the success of our initial installation, we’re delighted that our designs have now been approved for use in any of their UK stores.”
